About The Position

You will build the next generation of intelligent protection systems that secure people and physical spaces using AI. This role focuses on developing advanced intrusion alarms, perimeter monitoring, and personal safety solutions powered by multimodal data—combining signals from sensors, audio, and video. You will operate in a highly iterative environment, rapidly turning ideas into prototypes and scaling them into production systems. A key part of the role is exploring and applying cutting-edge large video and audio models to solve real-world security challenges. We are committed to a thriving in-office culture. This role requires that you be on-site at our HQ in San Mateo, CA.

Requirements

  • Ability to work at Verkada HQ during fall 2026 (proposed internship dates: August 31 - December 18)
  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or similar technical field of study and graduating by June 2027
  • Experience in AI or Machine Learning, gained through either an internship or research.
  • Strong ability to quickly build and iterate on new ideas in ambiguous problem spaces
  • Experience or interest in working with video, audio, and sensor data
  • Familiarity with modern machine learning approaches, especially multimodal or large models
  • Comfort experimenting with and applying large video and audio language models
  • Solid engineering skills with a focus on shipping production-ready systems
  • Ability to balance rapid prototyping with scalable, reliable system design
  • Self-driven mindset with a bias toward action and exploration

Responsibilities

  • Design and build AI-powered intrusion detection and alarm systems
  • Develop intelligent perimeter monitoring and real-time threat detection capabilities
  • Work with multimodal data (video, audio, and sensor inputs) to create robust safety systems
  • Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on new ideas from concept to deployment
  • Explore and integrate large-scale video and audio models for perception and anomaly detection
  • Optimize systems for real-time performance across edge and cloud environments
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define product direction and deliver impactful safety solutions
