About The Position

We are seeking an AI Software Engineer to support the development and modernization of a large-scale Java-based Immunization Information System (IIS). This role combines strong software engineering skills with AI-assisted development practices to accelerate delivery, improve quality, and drive innovation across healthcare technology solutions.

Requirements

Experience building AI-powered software development solutions using GitHub Copilot, Codex, Claude Code, or similar coding assistants.
Strong understanding of LLM integration, prompt engineering, agent-based workflows, tool calling, code generation, and automated software development processes.
Strong programming skills in Python with hands-on experience in AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, LangGraph, or similar technologies.
Experience building, testing, deploying, and maintaining AI-powered applications in cloud environments
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business challenges into AI-driven solutions.
5+ years of experience in Java application development.
Strong experience with: Java, Spring Boot
REST APIs
SQL (Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL)
JavaScript/TypeScript
Git and CI/CD pipelines
Experience using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, CodeX, Claude etc.).
Knowledge of software design patterns, testing frameworks, and secure coding practices.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Healthcare, Public Health, Medicaid, or IIS systems.
Knowledge of HL7/FHIR interoperability standards.
Experience with configurable or metadata-driven application frameworks.
Familiarity with cloud-native development and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain Java/Spring Boot applications and REST APIs.
Leverage AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and CodeX to accelerate development, testing, documentation, and code reviews.
Develop configurable workflows, business rules, reporting, and user-facing functionality.
Create and maintain automated unit, integration, and regression tests.
Collaborate with Product, QA, Architecture, and Business teams to deliver healthcare and public health solutions.
Participate in modernization initiatives and adoption of AI-driven engineering practices.
Ensure code quality, security, performance, and maintainability.
AI Model Development – Design, build, and train machine learning and deep learning models, including GenAI, NLP, and predictive analytics solutions for healthcare applications.
End-to-End AI Solution Deployment – Develop, test, and deploy AI solutions in cloud and on-premises environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, and real-world impact.
Data Engineering & Processing – Work with large healthcare datasets, performing data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model training while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
System Integration – Implement and optimize AI models within Gainwell’s existing technology stack, collaborating with software engineers to ensure seamless integration.
AI Research & Innovation – Stay updated with the latest AI/ML advancements, exploring new technologies and methodologies to enhance solution effectiveness.
Compliance & Security – Ensure AI implementations adhere to healthcare industry regulations, ethical AI principles, and data privacy standards.
Automation & Workflow Enhancement – Identify opportunities to automate workflows and optimize business processes using AI-driven solutions.
