About The Position

Samsung SDS America is seeking an AI Science Lab Research Intern to join their team. This internship offers hands-on experience in AI research, focusing on developing and fine-tuning techniques for Robot Foundation Models (RFMs) to perform precise, domain-specific real-world tasks. Interns will design methods for transferring task knowledge across robots with diverse form factors, enabling consistent task execution on various robot platforms. The role involves improving the accuracy and efficiency of Physical AI models in simulated and real environments, contributing to high-quality publications, and gaining experience with state-of-the-art Physical AI technologies. Interns will also develop organizational and communication skills within a corporate R&D setting. This is a full-time, 10-week internship based in Mountain View, CA, requiring at least 3 days onsite per week.

Requirements

  • Current or graduated M.S./Ph.D. candidate in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Vision, NLP, Applied Math, or Data Science
  • Research skill, Collaboration, Accountability, Self-Management, Escalation and Project Management
  • Advanced Python programming with PyTorch / TensorFlow experience
  • Linux environment navigation and shell scripting

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience configuring and training transformer models for NLP, computer vision, or robotics applications
  • Publications in top-ranked AI conferences
  • Ability to efficiently communicate technical contents in verbal and written form

Responsibilities

  • Develop & Test Fine‑Tuning Methods: Create algorithms that adapt RFMs for precise, domain‑specific tasks beyond generic model capabilities.
  • Cross‑Robot Knowledge Transfer: Design and evaluate techniques enabling task knowledge sharing between robots of different form factors (both homogeneous and heterogeneous platforms).
  • Experimentation & Evaluation: Conduct simulations and real‑world robot trials; collect and analyze performance metrics such as accuracy, efficiency, and robustness.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed experiment logs, produce technical reports, and support internal presentations.
  • Research Publication Support: Assist in drafting conference papers and posters that showcase internship results.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a mentor, supervising research team, and other interns to integrate findings into broader lab objectives.

Benefits

  • Paid internship program
  • Robust learning and training curriculum
