About The Position

Lydia AI is hiring a hands-on Senior Backend & AI Platform Engineer to build infrastructure for ORCA, its agentic AI platform. ORCA enables enterprises to execute complex business workflows using AI models, tools, and enterprise data. The platform aims to provide distributors and enterprise partners with reliable, reusable AI workflows through standard protocols such as A2A and MCP.

The engineer will work with an existing codebase to improve the execution architecture and help establish AI-native engineering practices across the team. In the first 3–6 months, success includes helping establish a reliable shared execution platform, making ORCA's first qualified workflows accessible through A2A/MCP, and improving the team's ability to deliver and maintain AI workflows independently.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience building production backend or distributed systems.
• Strong Python and database skills.
• Experience designing APIs, asynchronous workflows, and reliable execution systems.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, CI/CD, and production debugging.
• Practical understanding of AI agents, tool calling, agent harnesses, and evaluation.
• Strong engineering judgment and ability to independently own complex systems from design through production.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with MCP, A2A, or agent orchestration frameworks.
• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms or developer-facing APIs.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services that support reusable AI workflows, APIs, and distributed execution.
• Expose ORCA capabilities through A2A and MCP, with consistent execution, state management, and permissions.
• Implement durable execution, retries, recovery, monitoring, and secure multi-tenant operations.
• Evaluate existing functionality, address technical gaps, and establish reusable, tested workflow contracts.
• Use AI coding agents, automated testing, and evaluation systems to improve development velocity and quality.
• Help establish a reliable shared execution platform and make qualified workflows accessible through A2A/MCP.
