About The Position

Simple Technology Solutions (STS) is seeking an AI Platform & DevSecOps Engineer to own the environments, pipelines, and controls that enable an AI team to deliver safely in federal settings. The engineer will build and operate standard development, test, staging, and production environments; automate CI/CD gates that enforce the STS software development lifecycle; and serve as the team’s release manager. The position aims to make releases routine, generate security and compliance evidence through pipelines, and ensure AI services are guarded, observable, and cost-controlled. The engineer will also support client engagements that use AWS-native services. This is a remote position with occasional travel to client sites and STS events. Candidates in the DC Metro region within driving distance of quarterly in-person team events are strongly preferred. STS also favors remote candidates who live in a qualified HUBZone. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance are required. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, in addition to the stated experience minimum, is required. At least eight years of relevant professional experience is required. The AWS and Claude certifications specified as required must be earned within 12 months of hire. STS describes its culture as collaborative, flexible, and focused on continuous learning, mentorship, and excellence. The company states that it is committed to equal employment opportunity and merit-based employment practices.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience in addition to the minimum experience requirement.
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in DevOps, platform, cloud, or site-reliability engineering, including at least 4 years on AWS and at least 2 years supporting generative AI or machine-learning workloads.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering infrastructure as code with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines for a multi-environment application.
  • Experience supporting a federal or regulated system through an authorization process such as FedRAMP, RMF/ATO, or CJIS compliance.
  • Expert-level Terraform and AWS skills, including multi-account organization, IAM, VPC networking, KMS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Security Hub.
  • Hands-on experience securing and operating Amazon Bedrock and related AI services, including guardrails, model access, and usage and cost controls.
  • Strong CI/CD skills with GitHub Actions or an equivalent, automated testing integration, container builds, and artifact and secrets management.
  • Working knowledge of Python or TypeScript sufficient to write automation, pipeline steps, and platform tooling.
  • Familiarity with Claude Code, agentic development tooling, and administration of AI accounts and shared team configuration.
  • Security-minded approach while optimizing for developer speed; treats pipeline friction as a bug.
  • Calm, methodical approach under release pressure, with strong attention to detail in evidence and change control.
  • Self-directed and comfortable owning outcomes on a small, senior team and contributing across the lifecycle.
  • Curiosity about current AI tooling and commitment to holding AI assistant output to the same standard as human work.
  • Clear, candid communication with federal clients and teammates; strong writing and habitual documentation.
  • Bias toward fast delivery and early user feedback over conservative gating, with a willingness to learn from failure quickly.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, to be earned within 12 months of hire.
  • Claude Certified Developer – Foundations (CCDV-F) or Claude Certified Associate – Foundations (CCAO-F), to be earned within 12 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Certified Security – Specialty.
  • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate.
  • CompTIA Security+ or CISSP.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
  • Residence in the DC Metro region within driving distance of quarterly in-person team events.
  • Residence in a qualified HUBZone for remote candidates.
  • AWS Solutions Architect (Associate) or DevOps Engineer (Professional) certification preferred for hire.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain STS’s standard AWS environment set using Terraform and reusable infrastructure modules, with DEV and TST in a nonproduction account and STG and PRD in a production account.
  • Build and operate CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions or a client equivalent that enforce SDLC gates, including automated tests, coverage thresholds, security scans, and promotion approvals.
  • Serve as release manager by coordinating releases across environments, orchestrating release-management agents and skills, and maintaining release notes and rollback procedures.
  • Secure AI workloads on AWS using Amazon Bedrock guardrails, model access controls, least-privilege IAM, data encryption, logging, and network isolation for sensitive data.
  • Generate and maintain security and compliance evidence for frameworks such as FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and CJIS, and support client authorization and continuous-monitoring processes.
  • Implement AI application observability, including application and model-call tracing, evaluation metrics, cost monitoring, and alerting across environments.
  • Stand up and administer AI development tooling, including Claude Code accounts and configuration, shared agent and skill repositories, and integrations among Jira, GitHub, and pipelines.
  • Provide AWS platform engineering for client engagements, including landing zones, account structure, and well-architected reviews.
  • Automate work between requirements and end-to-end testing so human effort can focus on those lifecycle bookends.
  • Document the platform, runbooks, and standards as reusable components of the STS SDLC, and coach engineers in their use.
