About The Position

Karbon is seeking an AI Operations Lead to scale its AI adoption across all departments. This role involves building internal automations and agents, managing AI governance and visibility, training teams, and measuring the return on AI investments. The successful candidate will report to the CEO and work across all departments, with access and sponsorship to implement changes. The role requires a hands-on approach to building and maintaining AI tools, ensuring their trustworthiness, and demonstrating their value through data and metrics.

Requirements

  • Shipped production software in the last two years as a code writer.
  • Proficiency in Python or TypeScript, SQL, and REST APIs.
  • Experience building something real on top of a large language model (not just a demo), with users, error handling, and cost control.
  • Experience working directly with non-technical teams as the technical person (e.g., Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, GTM Engineer, Internal Tools Engineer).
  • Understanding of CS renewal motions and implementation scoping.
  • Ability to build and defend metrics derived from messy data to a CFO.
  • Experience running a cross-functional program with participants who do not report to you (e.g., champion network, ambassador program, adoption initiative).
  • Ability to create accountability without direct authority.
  • Clear written communication skills.
  • Ability to say no to work that will not yield a return.

Nice To Haves

  • Accounting, professional services, or B2B software market experience.
  • Familiarity with MCP server development, Claude API, or agent frameworks.
  • Experience with Okta or similar identity providers.

Responsibilities

  • Ship internal automations and agents that remove repeated manual work across Sales, CS, Implementation, Support, and Operations.
  • Connect AI to existing systems through APIs and MCP servers.
  • Build the data gateway, a routing proxy between Claude and internal data sources, with authentication via Okta, RBAC enforcement, and request logging.
  • Develop new connectors for the data gateway after initial security approval.
  • Prototype AI tools rapidly, harden those that are used, and delete those that are ignored.
  • Hand over built tools to owners in the teams that use them.
  • Manage the Claude access and provisioning workflow, including seat requests, model and tool access, and connector approvals.
  • Run the connector security review pipeline in partnership with the Security team.
  • Own the spend dashboard for all AI tools, providing weekly visibility to department leaders.
  • Develop an ROI framework for AI, including adoption rate, hours saved, cost per seat, and project-level impact.
  • Partner with Finance on budget accountability for AI initiatives.
  • Run the AI champions program, organizing pods, maintaining hub pages, and holding champions accountable for engagement.
  • Own the offboarding flow for AI skills and projects to ensure knowledge transfer.
  • Build and maintain the AI wiki, documenting tools, use cases, and skills per department.
  • Work with department leads to define and uphold AI usage standards.
  • Run practical, short, specific, and repeatable AI training sessions.
  • Build and maintain a shared library of prompts, skills, and patterns.
  • Own the pipeline for moving skills from intake through review to the shared library, automating where possible.
  • Define key metrics for AI success (cost, adoption, delivery, quality).
  • Build data pipelines for AI metrics and publish regular reports to the executive team.
  • Remove metrics that do not influence decisions after a quarter.
