AI Operations Engineer

Pulley•Seattle, WA
•$150,000 - $190,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Pulley is seeking its founding AI Operations Engineer to join their Engineering team. This role involves building tools, integrations, and automations to seamlessly integrate Pulley into strategic customer workflows and to create agents and automations for the Permit Ops team. The engineer will be responsible for the functionality and trustworthiness of their shipped work. The position requires collaboration across Permit Ops, customers, and Product teams, focusing on identifying and resolving process bottlenecks. As Pulley expands into new areas like due diligence and code checking, the role will encompass these as well.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, ops engineering, applied AI, or a similar hands-on building role.
  • CS or adjacent technical degree.
  • A track record of shipping AI-powered tools, agents, or automations that are still running in production (portfolio or examples are a plus).
  • Fluency with AI coding and agent tooling like Claude Code or Cursor as a daily practice.
  • Solid engineering fundamentals: ability to work with APIs and data, build reliable and secure systems, and debug complex issues.
  • Experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and willing to work in person 4 days a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction tech, govtech, proptech, or other domains involving complex real-world documents and processes.
  • Experience building internal tools or ops tooling (e.g., Retool, n8n, Zapier, MCP connectors, or custom solutions).
  • Experience designing evaluations or ensuring the reliability of LLM-powered workflows in production.
  • Early-stage startup or founder experience.
  • Interest in helping build and eventually lead a team.

Responsibilities

  • Work with strategic customers and account leads to understand their rollout processes and identify integration points for Pulley.
  • Build secure integrations, data syncs, and AI workflows to connect Pulley with customer systems, ensuring no data leaks or unsafe writes.
  • Collaborate with Permit Ops PMs to map workflows, identify automation opportunities, and determine tasks best suited for human intervention.
  • Develop fast, lightweight internal agents, tools, and automations to reduce manual research and administrative work for the Permit Ops team.
  • Ensure actual adoption and trust of shipped solutions by internal teams.
  • Build evaluations and monitoring systems to assess the accuracy of AI workflows, as incorrect outputs can lead to permit rejections and project delays.
  • Transform one-off fixes into reusable tools and playbooks applicable to all customers and PMs.
  • Communicate learnings back to Product and Engineering to drive platform improvements.
  • Challenge requests that do not effectively solve the underlying problem.

Benefits

  • Founding role with the opportunity to shape AIOps at Pulley.
  • Big scope covering customer integrations and internal tooling across all product lines.
  • Room for growth, with potential to build and lead the team as it scales.
