Senior/Staff AI/ML Engineer, Plant Intelligence

1 Arc Power•Mountain View, CA
•$237,000 - $257,500•Remote

About The Position

1AP builds software-defined utility-scale solar and storage plants that are designed, built, and operated on one software stack. Plant Intelligence is the layer that understands each plant, including its design, expected performance, and actual operations. It covers site design, performance modeling, digital twins, forecasting, and asset health. This is the first machine learning role on Plant Intelligence and will shape how AI is incorporated into every plant. The AI/ML Engineer will combine physics and machine learning to predict plant performance; build and maintain data foundations and pipelines for training, evaluating, and deploying models; and package models for deployment at plants in collaboration with Plant Infrastructure. The position is based in Mountain View, California, and is described as remote. The stated base salary range is $237,000–$257,500, plus equity and benefits. Actual compensation depends on job-related factors such as location, experience, training, skills, and abilities.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years building machine learning for production.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills, with hands-on experience using modern machine learning libraries.
  • Strong data engineering skills, including building reliable pipelines for large volumes of sensor and time-series data.
  • Experience with machine learning systems, including training and evaluation pipelines, model registries, and production monitoring.
  • Experience with modern data platforms, including data lakes, streaming, and workflow orchestration.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or similar.
  • Bias for action and end-to-end ownership, including shipping early, measuring results, and owning models from prototype through production and beyond.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with utility-scale solar and battery storage operations, including dispatch, curtailment, clipping, availability, and degradation.
  • Experience with solar performance modeling tools such as PVsyst, SAM, or similar.
  • Experience combining physics or simulation with machine learning.
  • Experience with linear or mixed-integer programming optimization.
  • Awareness of power electronics, including inverter limits, thermal derating, and active and reactive power control.
  • Experience deploying models on edge hardware.
  • Full-stack software development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Combine physics and machine learning in models that predict how each plant performs.
  • Capture and label operations, maintenance, and field data to support model training.
  • Build pipelines through which models are trained, evaluated, and deployed.
  • Package models for deployment at plants, working with Plant Infrastructure on running them on site.
  • Own models from initial prototype through production and beyond, measuring results and shipping early.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Gold-level PPO health insurance, with 100% of employee premiums and 75% of dependent premiums covered.
  • Dental and vision insurance, with 50% of employee premiums covered.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% employer match.
  • Equity.
