AI/ML Engineer, Senior

Gormat•Annapolis Junction, MD

About The Position

The Senior AI/ML Engineer will support the United States Cyber Command (USCC) by helping establish USCYBERCOM’s AI Enterprise capability, a central hub for moving AI solutions from prototypes to secure, governed, enterprise-scale services. The role designs and integrates models, agents, and AI workflows for the platform, with an operational focus on mission impact. The engineer provides embedded operations support, capability integration, and rapid prototyping for AI/ML-enabled tools. The work includes building agent orchestration workflows, model gateway routing, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, vector databases, memory services, and secure tool integrations. The role also evaluates and tunes models and agent behaviors, implements governance controls, documents architectures and evaluation results, and researches emerging AI technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python for AI/ML application development.
  • Demonstrated experience building or integrating production LLM- or agent-based systems.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, and prompt/context engineering.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced mission environments and identify and escalate operational risks early.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting USCYBERCOM, NSA, DoD cyber operations, or related mission environments.
  • Experience with LangGraph, Agno, or the NVIDIA NeMo Agent Toolkit.
  • Experience with model inference and serving platforms such as NVIDIA NIM, vLLM, Ollama, or LiteLLM.
  • Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool-broker/integration standards.
  • Experience with AI evaluation frameworks, model benchmarking, and observability (logs, metrics, and traces) for AI workloads.
  • Experience supporting USCYBERCOM, NSA, or DoD AI/cyber mission environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide embedded operations support, capability integration, and rapid prototyping for AI/ML-enabled tools supporting the customer.
  • Design and integrate LLM and agent orchestration workflows using frameworks such as LangGraph, Agno, and the NVIDIA NeMo Agent Toolkit.
  • Tune model gateway routing logic to select, evaluate, and optimize frontier and open-weight models for cost, performance, and mission fit.
  • Develop and integrate RAG pipelines, vector databases, and memory services to provide agents with mission knowledge and context.
  • Implement MCP-based tool-broker integrations that enable agents to access enterprise tools and data safely and securely.
  • Evaluate, benchmark, and tune models and agent behaviors; build automated evaluation pipelines to track quality, safety, and performance over time.
  • Partner with data scientists and mission analysts to turn research and prototypes into production-grade AI capabilities.
  • Implement AI governance guardrails, including content and safety filters, policy enforcement, and approval gates for agentic workflows.
  • Document model and agent architectures and evaluation results for reuse.
  • Research and evaluate emerging LLM, agent, and AI tooling to keep the command’s AI capability current and adaptable.
