About The Position

1 Arc Power is hiring a Senior/Staff AI/ML Engineer for Plant Intelligence, the software layer that understands how utility-scale solar and storage plants are designed, how they should perform, and how they actually run. Plant Intelligence spans site design, performance modeling, digital twins, forecasting, and asset health. This is the first machine learning role on the team and will help shape how AI is incorporated into every plant. The engineer will combine physics and machine learning to predict plant performance, establish data foundations from operations, maintenance, and field data, and create pipelines for model training, evaluation, and deployment. They will also package models for plant deployment in partnership with Plant Infrastructure. The role is listed as remote, with Mountain View, California as the location. The stated California base salary range is $237,000–$257,500, plus equity and benefits. Actual compensation depends on job-related factors including location, experience, training, skills, and abilities.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years building machine learning for production.
  • Strong Python and SQL background, with hands-on experience using modern machine learning libraries.
  • Strong data engineering skills, including building reliable pipelines for large volumes of sensor and time-series data.
  • Experience with ML systems, including training and evaluation pipelines, model registries, and production monitoring.
  • Experience with modern data platforms, including data lakes, streaming, and workflow orchestration.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or a similar tool.
  • Bias for action and end-to-end ownership, including shipping early, measuring results, and owning models from prototype through production and beyond.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with utility-scale solar and battery storage operations, including dispatch, curtailment, clipping, availability, and degradation.
  • Experience with solar performance modeling tools such as PVsyst or SAM.
  • Experience with hybrid modeling that combines physics or simulation with machine learning.
  • Experience with linear or mixed-integer programming optimization.
  • Awareness of power electronics, including inverter limits, thermal derating, and active and reactive power control.
  • Experience deploying models on edge hardware.
  • Full-stack software development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Combine physics and machine learning into models that predict how each plant performs.
  • Capture and label operations, maintenance, and field data to support model training.
  • Build pipelines through which models are trained, evaluated, and deployed.
  • Package models for plant deployment and work with Plant Infrastructure to run them on site.
  • Own models end to end, from initial prototypes through production and ongoing operation.

Benefits

  • 100% coverage of employee premiums and 75% of dependent premiums under a Gold-level PPO health plan.
  • 50% coverage of employee dental and vision insurance premiums.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% employer match.
  • Equity.
