About The Position

The Teaching & Learning department at Cornell University Library is seeking an AI Literacy Librarian to collaborate with librarians and faculty to design instruction, outreach, and assessment that promotes critical thinking about the use, evaluation, and ethics of AI. This role will also serve as a lead partner for the library’s in-house professional development efforts concerning AI and related digital tools. This is a creative, collaborative, and strategic position ideal for information professionals interested in contributing to undergraduate learning. The AI Literacy Librarian will report to the Head of Teaching and Learning and will help grow a new department focused on integrating multiple literacies across the curriculum, fostering pedagogical innovation, and assessing the impact of undergraduate educational initiatives. The role involves close collaboration with the Head of Teaching and Learning, with mentorship and training provided within an organizational culture dedicated to professional growth. Librarians at Cornell University hold academic appointments as Research, Teaching, and Extension faculty and must meet Cornell University Library requirements for promotion and reappointment through engagement in service and scholarship activities.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Up to three years of relevant professional experience in higher education or librarianship.
  • Formal training and/or experience with the design and delivery of instruction.
  • Demonstrated interest in critical thinking about the use of AI tools and its impacts on the research and learning process.
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously learn new skills, technologies, and methods and to apply those to your work.
  • Proven ability to foster positive work relationships and to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to fostering learning, research, service and/or outreach in a diverse community.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with librarians and faculty to design instruction, outreach, and assessment to promote baseline critical thinking around the use, evaluation, and ethics of AI.
  • Serve as a lead partner for the library’s in-house professional development efforts concerning AI and related digital tools.
  • Contribute to undergraduate learning through creative, collaborative, and strategic work.
  • Help to grow the new Teaching and Learning department.
  • Champion the integration of multiple literacies across the curriculum.
  • Foster pedagogical innovation.
  • Lead efforts to assess the impact of undergraduate educational initiatives.
  • Engage in service and scholarship activities to meet Cornell University Library requirements for Research, Teaching, and Extension (RTE) faculty promotion and reappointment.
