About The Position

As an AI & Internal Tools Software Engineering Intern at Inversion, you will help build software products that enable engineering and business teams to work more efficiently and solve complex problems. You will develop internal applications, automation platforms, and AI-enabled tools that support the design, manufacture, and operation of spacecraft. You will join the Internal Software Tools team and own a major software project, either building a product from the ground up or developing a substantial feature in an existing application. Working directly with engineers and other stakeholders, you will identify problems, develop solutions, and deliver tools used across the company. The role spans the full software stack, including frontend applications, backend services, APIs, data infrastructure, and modern AI/LLM integrations. The position is based at the company headquarters in Playa Vista, California, and requires in-office presence throughout the internship.

  • Experience building software applications using one or more of TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, or Rust.
  • Familiarity with frontend or backend application development, including web frameworks, APIs, or databases.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including debugging, testing, data structures, and application design.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently build software projects and learn new technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and willingness to tackle loosely defined technical challenges.
  • Ability to collaborate with technical and nontechnical stakeholders and communicate ideas effectively.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations, to comply with ITAR.
