Wanted: Q

Fairlo•Stockholm, ME

About The Position

Fairlo is hiring its first AI Engineer to help build the company’s AI-driven operations as it becomes a bank. This is a new role with no established roadmap. Based in the Stockholm office and reporting directly to the CTO, the AI Engineer will work across the company to identify valuable AI opportunities, build practical tools and establish the platform and safeguards needed to use AI safely in a regulated financial business. The role combines product engineering, internal enablement and platform ownership. The engineer will build AI-powered tools and agents, from user discovery through backend development, integrations, deployment and iteration; establish and operate Fairlo’s AI foundation on AWS; and create secure integrations, reusable templates, self-service environments and documentation. The role also includes embedding security, compliance and data-protection requirements into development workflows, evaluating emerging models and tools, and helping colleagues across the company learn to use AI effectively.

Requirements

  • Several years of backend engineering experience; TypeScript / Node.js experience is preferred.
  • Experience building complete products independently.
  • Production ownership of systems end to end, including architecture, operations and incident response.
  • Ability to make technical decisions independently.
  • Ability to keep pace with changes in AI tools and demonstrate recent work built with newer tools.
  • Ability to deliver quickly while making sound decisions about when to prototype and when to build for production quality.
  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs, such as Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic or OpenAI APIs, agents, tool calling or RAG.
  • Solid production experience with AWS, including IAM, networking, security, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, containers and monitoring.
  • Security-first mindset and understanding of handling sensitive personal and financial data.
  • Ability to turn loosely defined problems into concrete solutions and deliver them without a detailed specification.
  • Enjoyment of working directly with non-technical colleagues and ability to explain technical topics simply.
  • Fluency in English, Fairlo’s working language.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building internal tools, automation or AI agents used across a company.
  • Experience building MCP servers or integrating AI with tools such as Slack, GitLab or a data warehouse.
  • Experience with AI evaluation or LLM observability tools such as Langfuse or LangSmith.
  • Experience with policy as code or automated security and compliance checks in pipelines.
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as banking or payments, or familiarity with ISO 27001, DORA or the EU AI Act.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and data platforms such as Snowflake.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain AI-powered tools and agents that improve colleagues’ work, including automating operational processes and providing faster access to information for credit and finance teams.
  • Own AI tools end to end, from conversations with users through backend development, integrations, deployment and iteration.
  • Work with teams across Fairlo to identify opportunities for AI, prototype solutions, test them with users and develop successful prototypes into reliable tools.
  • Evaluate new models, tools and AI working methods, and adopt suitable options safely.
  • Own Fairlo’s AI foundation on AWS, including Amazon Bedrock, approved AI tools, model access, logging, cost controls and monitoring.
  • Build integrations that provide AI tools with controlled, least-privilege access to Fairlo’s codebase, analytics and data, including MCP servers and internal APIs.
  • Create templates, self-service environments and documentation that enable non-engineering colleagues to build and experiment safely.
  • Implement automated security, compliance and data-protection checks in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Run workshops, coach colleagues and share effective practices to improve AI use across the company.

Benefits

  • Creative freedom and the opportunity to choose architectural and technical frameworks.
  • Opportunity to help build financial services the employee would like to use.
  • Supportive team culture.
  • Work from a top-location Stockholm office, with a hybrid working framework.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • High-end laptop and equipment.
  • 30 days of paid holidays per year, in addition to bank holidays.
  • Free sick days.
  • Private health insurance.
  • Pension scheme.
