About The Position

The AI Engineer will implement AI strategy to increase adoption of AI technologies across a client organization. The role coordinates with stakeholders to establish on-premises AI servers and integrates capabilities such as prompt orchestration, tool and function calling, embeddings, and fine-tuning into applications and services. The engineer collaborates with data scientists, platform engineers, and product teams to develop use cases, deliver proofs of concept and minimum viable products, and prepare them to scale. The role applies responsible AI practices and security and compliance requirements in commercial and public-sector environments, and supports digital transformation initiatives that use AI to improve mission accomplishment and operating efficiency.

Requirements

Maintain an active Secret Federal or DoD security clearance.
Bachelor’s degree.
Eight or more years of professional experience, including the specified experience below.
Three years of experience in software, data, RAG architecture/vector databases, or ML engineering, including building and operating cloud-native services such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or AWS Bedrock.
Two years focused specifically on Generative AI/LLM technologies.
One year optimizing token efficiency and cost management in production LLM applications, such as through prompt compression, caching, context-window management, or model routing.

Nice To Haves

Ability to write clear documentation and collaborate in cross-functional teams.
Experience contributing to client-facing engineering in consulting or product environments.
Master’s degree in a relevant technical or engineering program.
Demonstrated experience deploying and managing on-premises, self-hosted model infrastructure, beyond solely cloud-based or SaaS AI tools.
Experience architecting scalable hybrid on-premises and cloud AI/ML solutions end to end, from data pipeline to deployment.
Working knowledge of AI security concepts, including adversarial robustness, model access controls, and data protection in restricted environments.
Expert experience leading development efforts, with clear examples of value added to the client.
Experience interacting with end-users to understand and document business and functional requirements for complex projects, and collaborating with technical teams across the full software development life cycle.
Considerable proven knowledge of organizational planning and project management specific to lifecycle development processes.
Experience with common data science tools such as R, Python, and MATLAB, with a heavy emphasis on Python.
