AI Engineer $90,646 - $112,382 / year minimum starting pay Job Level: Individual Contributor Location: Columbia, Missouri (On-site, Full-time) Shelter maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in geographic location, education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Please remember that this range is the starting base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience, required.
• Experience developing software, data products, AI applications, or enterprise integrations.
• Hands-on experience with Python and REST APIs, plus familiarity with SQL and Git, required.
• Working knowledge of large language models, prompt engineering, embeddings, vector search, RAG, and agentic workflows, required.
• Experience with Snowflake, Glean, or comparable data, search, knowledge-management, or AI platforms.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, testing, monitoring, and secure development.
• Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

• Experience building with Snowflake Cortex, Snowflake CoCo, Glean agents, or similar enterprise AI platforms, preferred.
• Experience with evaluation harnesses, prompt/version management, observability, or AI quality measurement, preferred.
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated data environments, preferred.
• Familiarity with identity, role-based access control, data classification, and privacy-by-design practices, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implement and support governed AI experiences under senior engineer, architect, and product leader direction.
• Balance rapid experimentation with enterprise testing, security, observability, and operational ownership.
