AI Engineer Co-Op Spring 2027

MSA, The Safety Company•Cranberry Township, PA

About The Position

MSA Safety is seeking an AI Engineer Co-Op to help build and scale an AI platform that connects users across business functions with enterprise data. The platform supports intelligent search, agentic workflows for task automation, and artifact generation, with applications in frontline support, new product development engineering, and business development. The co-op will work across the technology stack, including orchestrating large language models and agents, integrating enterprise data sources, deploying services in the cloud, and improving systems based on real user feedback. The role calls for someone adaptable, quick to learn, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to communicate clearly while delivering work in a fast-moving environment.

Requirements

  • Working toward a bachelor's or master's degree in AI Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience building AI-enabled applications, ideally involving agentic workflows, tool orchestration, and evaluation.
  • Experience with MLOps practices, including model deployment, monitoring, and evaluation in a cloud environment; AWS is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Working experience with at least one major machine learning framework, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Solid understanding of transformer-based models, including multimodal architectures, and familiarity with parameter-efficient fine-tuning methods such as LoRA or QLoRA and optimization techniques such as quantization, pruning, or distillation.
  • Understanding of software across the stack and in the cloud, including containers, serverless functions, databases, and observability or telemetry.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and a track record of clean, well-tested code.
  • Adaptability, a fast pace, and curiosity to learn new tools and frameworks as the AI landscape evolves.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with open-source models via Hugging Face and managed services such as AWS Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore, as well as agent SDKs such as Strands.
  • Experience with enterprise ERP and CRM systems such as SAP and Salesforce.
  • Experience in an agile development environment.
  • Experience with Vision Transformers and/or CNNs.
  • Familiarity with SQL, ETL, and working with large datasets.
  • TypeScript proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build AI-enabled applications and services for intelligent search, agentic workflows, and artifact generation.
  • Develop and orchestrate agentic systems, including tool use, multi-step reasoning, and evaluation loops grounded in real-world feedback.
  • Deploy, monitor, and continuously improve models and AI services on AWS.
  • Partner with stakeholders across MSA business functions to translate needs into productive tools.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and help drive technical decisions across the team.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code and uphold engineering practices, including Git, code review, CI/CD, and testing.
