About The Position

Safari AI is hiring an AI Deployment Engineer/Manager to deploy its computer vision system at theme parks, stadiums, retail stores, and live venues. The role reports to the Deployment lead and works with the ML and Engineering teams. It is forward-deployed work involving cameras, edge computers, networks, and servers, from initial site surveys through production operation and monitoring. The position offers increasing ownership: during the first 90 days, the hire will run parts of deployments with support; by month six, they are expected to own smaller deployments and pilot kits; after about 12 months, a successful hire may grow into a senior Deployment Engineer, Solutions Engineering, or Client Success role. The role is remote within the U.S. and requires regular travel to customer sites.

Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 0–3 years of experience in IT, system administration, network support, field engineering, or a similar role; internships, co-ops, and homelab projects count.
  • Comfort with the Linux command line, including SSH, permissions, services, logs, and basic shell scripting.
  • Basic networking knowledge, including IP addressing, subnets, DHCP, DNS, switches, and PoE.
  • Comfort working with physical hardware, including racking a server, running and testing cable, mounting and aiming a camera, and working on a ladder.
  • Strong troubleshooting habits, including narrowing down problems step by step and documenting what was tried.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with teammates, contractors, and customer IT staff.
  • Organization, attention to detail, and ability to learn quickly in new technical environments.
  • Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.; the company cannot sponsor or take over sponsorship of work visas now or in the future.
  • Ability to travel regularly to customer sites, sometimes on short notice.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when sites are closed to guests, and respond to emergencies on priority projects.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb of equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with IP cameras, NVR/VMS systems, or RTSP streams, including Axis, Hanwha, Hikvision, or similar.
  • Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, GPUs, or other edge AI hardware.
  • Experience with Ansible, Docker, OpenVPN/WireGuard, or other automation and remote-access tools.
  • CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or a homelab to discuss.
  • Consulting, robotics, or computer vision experience.
  • Experience building or using an AI agent to automate personal work.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and configure edge computers, including x86 GPU servers and NVIDIA Jetson devices, cameras, network switches, and 5G/LTE modems before shipment.
  • Maintain, patch, and troubleshoot Linux systems in the field, and improve installation scripts and Ansible playbooks.
  • Travel to customer sites to install and connect cameras and edge devices, verify camera streams and angles, and bring systems online.
  • Coordinate with installation contractors and customer IT teams to keep deployments on schedule.
  • Conduct pre-deployment assessments with the Deployment lead, including camera inventory, network layout, bandwidth sizing, redundancy, and rack space.
  • Help specify ML/GPU hardware and design site-to-site and VPN connections.
  • Track hardware inventory, order from preferred vendors, coordinate shipping, and maintain checklists, timelines, and status reports.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customers during and after deployment.
  • Respond to alerts such as offline cameras or edge devices, resolve or escalate issues, and document findings clearly.
  • Write installation guides, SOPs, and handoff documents.
  • Use AI tools and scripts to automate repetitive deployment and support work.
