AI / Algorithm Engineer – Vascular Imaging (Bedford, MA)

Philips•Bedford, MA
•$129,000 - $205,000•Onsite

About The Position

Philips is hiring an AI / Algorithm Engineer to bring advanced vascular imaging algorithms from validated prototypes into medical products. The role is part of a cross-functional team that advances algorithms from ideation and prototyping through data annotation and model development, verification, validation, and regulatory submission in a regulated medical-device environment. The initial focus is productizing, optimizing, and deploying existing deep-learning pipelines for X-ray coronary angiography, with increasing ownership of algorithm development across angiography, intravascular imaging (OCT/IVUS), and other cardiovascular modalities. This individual-contributor position involves porting, optimizing, and deploying deep-learning pipelines across hardware platforms; integrating models across frameworks and runtimes; developing product-ready algorithms; and supporting evidence generation and regulatory activities. The role is office-based in Bedford, Massachusetts, with in-person work at least three days per week. Candidates must reside in or within commuting distance of Bedford and have U.S. work authorization; visa sponsorship and relocation benefits are not available.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of post-graduation professional experience in algorithms, machine learning, or software development.
  • Strong Python and TensorFlow skills, including model training, export, and inference.
  • Experience optimizing deep-learning inference on GPU and/or CPU using profiling, memory management, and batching.
  • Disciplined software engineering practices, including automated testing, version control, and CI/CD.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • A solid foundation in image processing and deep learning for computer vision, with the ability to apply these skills to practical development and analysis.
  • Ability to leverage generative AI tools, such as coding assistants and LLMs, for development, documentation, and analysis.
  • Ability to meet the position's minimum physical, cognitive, and environmental job requirements, with or without accommodation.
  • U.S. work authorization; sponsorship for a work-authorized visa is not available now or in the future.
  • Must reside in or within commuting distance of Bedford, Massachusetts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a regulated medical-device environment.
  • Experience with ONNX, PyTorch, C/C++, or CUDA.
  • Experience with cardiovascular imaging or medical-image annotation workflows.
  • Experience with generative AI or LLM-based development tools.
  • A master's degree or PhD.

Responsibilities

  • Port, optimize, and deploy existing deep-learning pipelines across hardware platforms, improving memory use, throughput, and latency.
  • Convert and integrate models across frameworks and runtimes, such as ONNX, in collaboration with software and systems engineers.
  • Build automated tests and benchmarks to demonstrate that ported algorithms reproduce reference results, and document them as verification evidence.
  • Develop algorithms for X-ray angiography, intravascular OCT/IVUS, and other cardiovascular imaging, from ideation and prototyping with clinical partners through product-ready implementation.
  • Drive data sourcing, curation, and annotation, and evaluate model performance using rigorous statistical methods.
  • Contribute to verification, validation, risk management, and regulatory submissions for AI-enabled medical devices.

Benefits

  • Generous PTO.
  • 401(k) with up to 7% company match.
  • HSA with company contribution.
  • Stock purchase plan.
  • Education reimbursement.
  • Other compensation may include an annual incentive bonus, sales commission, or long-term incentives.
