About The Position

Southern States’ 10-week summer internship provides hands-on experience in agronomy operations and the agriculture industry. Interns work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to meaningful projects, build practical skills, and learn about career opportunities in agriculture. The program is full-time at 40 hours per week and pays $18.00 per hour. It includes networking opportunities with Southern States leaders and professionals and concludes with a final project presentation. Interns are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Systems Management, Precision Agriculture, or related degree program.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Interest in agriculture, agronomy, and customer service.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to walk fields and uneven terrain.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Basic computer and mobile technology skills.
• Valid driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

• Sophomore, junior, or senior standing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist agronomy sales and operations teams with daily activities.
• Conduct crop scouting, field observations, and data collection.
• Support soil and tissue sampling programs.
• Help prepare and monitor agronomic field trials.
• Observe and participate in customer visits and consultations.
• Learn inventory management, logistics, and operational processes.
• Use technology and mobile applications to support agronomy services.
• Participate in safety training and professional development opportunities.
• Complete a final internship project and presentation.
