Summer 2027 - Agronomy Intern
About The Position
Southern States offers a 10-week, full-time summer internship designed to give students hands-on experience in agronomy operations and the agriculture industry. Interns work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain exposure to crop scouting, field evaluations, sampling, precision agriculture, sales support, customer interactions, field trials, and cooperative business operations. The program includes networking with Southern States leaders and professionals and concludes with a project presentation showcasing the intern’s work and accomplishments. Interns are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Systems Management, Precision Agriculture, or related degree program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Interest in agriculture, agronomy, and customer service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk fields and uneven terrain.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Basic computer and mobile technology skills.
- Valid driver's license required.
Nice To Haves
- Sophomore, junior, or senior standing is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist agronomy sales and operations teams with daily activities.
- Conduct crop scouting, field observations, and data collection.
- Support soil and tissue sampling programs.
- Help prepare and monitor agronomic field trials.
- Observe and participate in customer visits and consultations.
- Learn inventory management, logistics, and operational processes.
- Use technology and mobile applications to support agronomy services.
- Participate in safety training and professional development opportunities.
- Complete a final internship project and presentation.
