About The Position
The Agriculture Systems Summer Day Camp Counselor supports the supervision, instruction, and engagement of middle school students participating in a six-week agriculture and food systems summer camp. Counselors assist with daily activities, field experiences, service learning, and hands-on projects designed to expose students to food, agriculture, sustainability, and career pathways. Counselors work under the direction of Food & Agriculture Literacy staff and Lead Counselors to ensure a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
- Basic Reading and Writing
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate degree or 60 hours
- 6 months – 1 year of work experience
- 1 to 3 years of work experience
- Microsoft Office software proficiency
- Proficiency with office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)
- Proficiency with hand tools (e.g. hammer, shovel, screwdriver)
- Ability to supervise travel in vehicles
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support students during daily camp activities and transitions.
- Assist with the implementation of agriculture, food systems, and sustainability learning activities.
- Support student participation in seed-to-plate projects and indoor growing activities.
- Assist with STEM challenges, cooking competitions, and team-based learning activities.
- Support field trips, service-learning projects, and guest speaker sessions.
- Supervise students during farm visits and service projects at Mykawa Farm.
- Maintain a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
- Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and respectful behavior among campers.
- Assist with the preparation, setup, and cleanup of materials and learning spaces.
- Support culturally responsive and inclusive learning practices.
- Communicate student needs or concerns to Lead Counselors or FAL staff.
- Assist with the preparation, setup, and cleanup of instructional materials and activities.
- Support college and career exploration activities related to food and agriculture.
- Model positive behavior and professionalism for students.
- Contribute to a positive camp experience and successful program completion.
- Other duties as assigned.
