The Montana Department of Agriculture is seeking an Agricultural Technician in Great Falls to sample grain and other crops. The State Grain Laboratory in Great Falls operates a statewide grain and commodity inspection program, performing accurate and unbiased sampling, inspections, and testing in compliance with federal and state grain standards. As the only federally designated, official grain inspection service in Montana, the lab certifies the type and grade of crops for market value determination under federal standards. Grain Samplers may begin their day preparing samples at the Lab before being assigned a route for collecting samples from various grain elevators. This often involves significant driving, with elevators located hours away from Great Falls. At each elevator, crop samples are taken from rail cars, trucks, totes, or bags and returned to the lab. The routes and crops vary daily. The State Grain Laboratory provides on-the-job training during paid work hours.
