About The Position

Supports the Peanut Variety and Quality Evaluation (PVQE) program at the center under the leadership of the peanut extension specialist. Duties include carrying out experimental protocols involving land preparation, planting, experimental plot maintenance, harvesting, post-harvest processing, sample processing, data collection and recording for on-center research sites and off-center sites. Off-center sites include locations in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina as components of a multi-state project. This position is also responsible for organization and upkeep of facilities and equipment assigned to the PVQE program and gives guidance to part-time employees and graduate students working within the program.

Requirements

  • Must have or make progress towards obtaining within one year of employment Category 10 pesticide applicators license.
  • Must have or make progress towards obtaining within one year of employment commercial driver's license with Class A endorsement.
  • Must have or make progress towards obtaining within one year of employment DOT medical certification.
  • Experience operating mechanical equipment such as tractors, planters, sprayer and cultivation equipment, harvest combines, power and hand tools, and other field crop research equipment.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on field and research equipment.
  • Experience providing support for research projects and the ability to communicate and plan with the project leader and cooperating staff.
  • Must have a criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a safe driving record.
  • Pre-employment drug screening for employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with agronomic field research and pesticide application techniques is preferred.
  • Experience with data entry and Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
