About The Position

The Agricultural Coordinator will assist in the implementation of the Urban Farm Initiative in partnership with members of the San Antonio Food Bank Farm Department. This position will provide leadership with cultivation, harvest, volunteer management, and crop processing.

Requirements

  • Agricultural operations experience of at least three years.
  • Mechanical insights from prior equipment operation.
  • Accept and amplify the SAFB mission.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers, and agency personnel.
  • Orientation to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines.
  • Good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work outside for long periods of time.
  • Has current Texas driver's license and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of the Director of Food Resilience and accomplish tasks and assignments.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other farm staff
  • Learn and operate heavy farm equipment such as tractors, trucks, walk-behind tractors, etc.
  • Perform overall farm and garden work to include weeding, irrigation, fruit tree maintenance, walking path maintenance, planting, harvesting, remove dead and diseased foliage.
  • Water, reset drip tape, monitor water catchment tanks, and inspect nurse lines.
  • Provide insight, creative contributions, and discussion regarding farm and garden plans.
  • Support planning activities for seasonal cultivation strategies.
  • Ability to work with a variety of community members and volunteers. Engage volunteers in needed activities and delegate assignments.
  • Greet and orientate volunteers as well as share the mission of the San Antonio Food Bank.
  • Ensure equipment is well maintained.
  • Maintain records and weekly reports.
  • All other duties as assigned.
