About The Position

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Agricultural Loans Officer is responsible for credit granting functions within personal, agricultural, commercial, and mortgage areas. This includes interviewing clients, assessing credit worthiness, and authorizing loans within limits or recommending/declining loans based on established lending criteria. The role involves analyzing financial statements, operating cycles, profit levels, cash flow projections, and other factors affecting loan viability and risk. The officer will promote and cross-sell credit union products and services, actively participate in branch campaigns to promote loan growth, and maintain a high profile as the financial institution of choice by establishing relationships and business contacts. A systematic collection procedure is also a key responsibility to ensure the safety of funds and manage the delinquency ratio.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a member client base through existing members, cold calls, and referrals.
  • Interview members, gather information, identify client needs, and determine mutual interest.
  • Analyze member client financial information including financial statements, operating cycles, cash flow, historical performance of the business, profitability, and personal net worth.
  • Evaluate security, conduct credit worthiness investigations, calculate the loan to value of security position, and ensure appropriate documents are prepared.
  • Complete loan applications, prepare necessary analysis and paperwork, create a loan file, and ensure documents for searches and registrations are prepared.
  • Review loan file documentation and conditions with the member, have the member sign appropriate forms, and advance the loan upon approval.
  • Grant loans within discretionary lending authority or present applications over lending limits for approval.
  • Conduct annual reviews of loans and lines of credit according to policy.
  • Conduct follow-up on delinquent accounts, review delinquency reports, analyze loan status, and recommend/implement actions to mitigate losses.
  • Acquire and review monthly operational reports from member client businesses.
  • Audit loan files for appropriate registrations, proper execution of documents, and verification that all conditions have been met.
  • Review overdrafts daily and recommend appropriate action within credit union policy.
  • Understand and incorporate branch operating procedures, lending policies, and security requirements.
  • Identify new business opportunities in the community through personal contact, cold calling, and referrals.
  • Represent the credit union in the community by participating in local business activities and community functions.
  • Identify opportunities to promote, up-sell, and cross-sell the full range of credit union products.
  • Promote the concept of relationship marketing and develop an affiliation with members.
  • Participate in campaigns, marketing initiatives, and promotions for new products and services.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the lending portfolio by analyzing member needs, business trends, and competitor offerings.
  • Portray a good sense of teamwork and establish working relationships with other staff members.
  • Perform other duties as necessary under the direction of the Branch Manager/Immediate Supervisor, including loan clerking duties and other levels of lending.
