About The Position

This position provides support for field operations, including planting, fertilizing, harvesting, and sampling of research and extension demonstration plots. The role involves accurately maintaining digital and written records related to field activities, equipment use, and plot operations. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in the maintenance and operation of WFREC farm equipment and vehicles, performing minor repairs and routine maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and basic transmission servicing. The position requires operating a wide range of farm and motorized equipment, including those with navigation and mapping technologies, and potentially pesticide and soil amendment application equipment in accordance with regulations and safety standards. Driving is a requirement. The incumbent must be capable of conducting these activities independently while maintaining constant communication with the Farm Manager and/or supervisor. Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be able to maintain Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must have or obtain a Commercial pesticide applicators license within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in operation of large and small farm equipment to include tractors, combines, pickers, loaders, backhoes, turf care equipment, trucks and vans.
  • Should be able to set up and operate all types of farm equipment including those with computer-based guidance systems for precision operations and record keeping.
  • Ability to read and understand pesticide labels.
  • A high school diploma.
  • Two years’ experience with operation of farm and construction equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a wide range of farm and motorized equipment, including units equipped with navigation and mapping technologies.
  • Operates pesticide and soil amendment application equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and safety standards.
  • Driving will be required.
  • Conducts activities independently while maintaining constant communication with the Farm Manager and/or supervisor.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
