About The Position

The Agricultural Assistant II operates a wide range of farm and motorized equipment, including units equipped with navigation and mapping technologies. This role involves the operation of pesticide application equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and safety standards. The incumbent must be capable of conducting these activities independently while maintaining constant communication with the Farm Manager. Driving will be required. The position assists in the coordination and implementation of planting, fertilizing, harvesting, and sampling of research and extension demonstration plots. The role accurately maintains digital and written records related to field activities, equipment uses, and plot operations. The Agricultural Assistant II is responsible for helping train lower-level farm crew members. Additionally, the role coordinates and performs maintenance and operation of WFREC farm equipment and vehicles, conducts annual inspections of all University of Florida vehicles assigned to WFREC, performs minor and selected major repairs on WFREC vehicles and equipment, and conducts routine vehicle maintenance including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and basic transmission servicing. Other tasks may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must have or obtain a Commercial pesticide applicators license within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability and experience in operation of large and small farm equipment to include tractors, combines, pickers, loaders, backhoes, turf care equipment, trucks and vans.
  • Ability to set up and operate all types of farm equipment including those with computer-based guidance systems for precision operations and record keeping.
  • Ability to read and understand pesticide labels.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in standard office software applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
