About The Position

The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) is seeking five (5) non-permanent Agricultural Aides for the Plant Services Program within the Plant Protection Division. This division protects agriculture, the environment, and consumers from pests and diseases, supports pollinator and soil health, and ensures proper weights and measures and pesticide use. The Plant Services Program is on the front line against exotic plant pests and diseases, conducting inspections, testing, and certification of raw plant products. This role is crucial for ensuring the export of over $1 Billion in Washington State agricultural goods annually. The Agricultural Aides will conduct greenhouse and field virus index testing, maintain equipment and facilities, and complete peak season work for the Fruit Tree Certification Project.

Requirements

  • Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) or more months of experience as an Agricultural Aide with the WSDA Fruit Tree Certification Lab.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in field and greenhouse work by planting, grafting, and inoculating woody plants for virus indexing.
  • Maintain plants in the field and greenhouse.
  • Prepare samples for laboratory testing.
  • Sort and sample plant material in preparation for lab testing.
  • Use a state agency vehicle to transport samples to the lab for testing.
