About The Position

Apple’s Proactive Intelligence team is seeking an Agentic Systems Engineer to build autonomous, agentic workflows and features for Apple platforms. The role uses generative models to develop products and experiences for iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, and iPad that understand, anticipate, and adapt to user behavior. The engineer will design and implement low-level execution frameworks that securely connect foundation models with Apple’s UI and system APIs. They will translate multimodal model outputs into safe, reliable actions across macOS and iOS, and build runtime infrastructure that enables models to act on users’ behalf. The work may also include integrating perception pipelines and agentic tools while ensuring systems are fast, deeply integrated, and private. The role involves collaborating with engineers, researchers, and cross-functional teams—including CoreOS, UI Frameworks, and Siri—to align messaging, contribute to roadmaps, and integrate software into core-system repositories. The engineer will communicate architectural ideas, contribute to architecture decisions and design and peer code reviews, and write documented, tested, maintainable, production-quality code.

Requirements

  • Strong programming skills in Swift, Objective-C, and/or C++.
  • 10+ years of experience in system-level software engineering or OS integration.
  • At least 10 years of experience in applied software engineering and/or product development.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of modern operating system concepts, including IPC, daemons, event routing, and sandboxing.
  • Strong software engineering skills for creating scalable, robust infrastructure that securely interfaces with LLMs and evaluation systems.
  • Proven ability to architect and debug complex asynchronous systems, perform error analysis, and bridge high-level logic with low-level execution.
  • Hands-on experience with applied LLM integration, prompt engineering, and agentic orchestration patterns such as tool calling and multi-turn reasoning loops.
  • Collaborative, creative, project-focused approach and ability to work hands-on with multifunctional teams.
  • Proficiency with Apple UI frameworks such as UIKit, AppKit, and SwiftUI, and understanding of accessibility (AX) or UI automation technologies.
  • Passion for building generative AI features and redefining human-computer interaction.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of daemon architecture, event routing, sandboxing, and prompt engineering.
