About The Position

Apple is seeking an Agentic Systems Engineer for its Proactive Intelligence team to build autonomous, agentic workflows and next-generation AI features for iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, and iPad. The role combines systems architecture and applied machine learning to help Apple platforms better understand, anticipate, and adapt to user behavior. The engineer will design and implement low-level execution frameworks that securely connect foundation models with Apple UI and system APIs. This includes building runtime loops that translate multimodal model outputs into safe, reliable actions across macOS and iOS, and, where needed, integrating perception pipelines and agentic tooling. The work emphasizes performance, deep platform integration, and privacy. The role involves communicating architectural ideas to engineers and researchers; collaborating with CoreOS, UI Frameworks, Siri, and other cross-functional teams; aligning messaging and roadmaps; and contributing software to repositories for integration with core systems. The engineer will write production-quality, maintainable code with documentation and tests, and participate in architecture decisions, design reviews, and peer code reviews.

Requirements

  • Strong programming skills in Swift, Objective-C, and/or C++.
  • 10+ years of experience in system-level software engineering or OS integration.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in applied software engineering and/or product development.
  • Fundamental knowledge of modern operating system concepts, including IPC, daemons, event routing, and sandboxing.
  • Strong software engineering skills to create scalable, robust infrastructure that securely interfaces with LLMs and evaluation systems.
  • Proven ability to architect and debug complex asynchronous systems, perform error analysis, and bridge high-level logic with low-level execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with applied LLM integration, prompt engineering, and agentic orchestration patterns such as tool calling and multi-turn reasoning loops.
  • Passion for building Generative AI features and redefining human-computer interaction.
  • Creative, collaborative, project-focused approach and ability to work hands-on in multifunctional teams.
  • Proficiency with Apple UI frameworks, including UIKit, AppKit, or SwiftUI.
  • Understanding of accessibility (AX) or UI automation technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement low-level execution frameworks that securely connect foundation models to Apple UI and system APIs.
  • Build runtime loops that translate multimodal model outputs into safe, reliable system actions across macOS and iOS.
  • Integrate perception pipelines and agentic tooling where needed.
  • Communicate architectural ideas to engineers and researchers.
  • Collaborate with CoreOS, UI Frameworks, Siri, and other cross-functional teams to align messaging and contribute to roadmaps.
  • Contribute software to different repositories for integration with core systems.
  • Write clean, maintainable, production-quality code with appropriate documentation and tests.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, design reviews, and peer code reviews.
