About The Position

The Agency Sales Manager is responsible for the growth, retention and profitability of business within a single agency office. Activities performed include recruiting, training, motivating, managing and leading District Sales Managers and Sales Professionals. Directs activity necessary to develop the sales agency.

Requirements

  • American Republic insurance products and the marketing of such products.
  • Laws, rules and regulations applicable to the selling of insurance products and services, including but not limited to, privacy laws as well as corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to privacy as related to accessing, utilizing, and disclosing individually identifiable information.
  • Management and recruitment of sales managers, sales professionals and staff.
  • Developing sales professionals and territory by networking with third party sources and attending community activities.
  • Creating sales marketing and business plan for self, Agency Sales Managers, District Sales Managers and Sales Professionals that ensures high level of sourcing activity and production.
  • Tools and resources available to Agency offices.
  • Policy and procedures as related to office operations, and federal/state compliance requirements. Growing an assigned territory, while managing direct reports.
  • Has the ability to communicate a clear road map and vision of the Company sales strategy in a way that is easily understood by employees and agents.
  • Proven selling, sales leadership and other professional skills as related to all responsibilities of the job; proven ability to lead through others, including effective leadership of remote offices.
  • Compromise, persuasion and negotiation skills as related to closing a sale, maintaining a quality customer service environment, recruiting and selecting job candidates and interacting with staff.
  • Ability to manage a multiple agency operating budgets, manage expenses and make sales forecasts.
  • Goal setting skills as related to communicating sales team goals, conducting performance evaluations and interacting with staff.
  • Interviewing skills and hiring procedures as related to recruiting and selecting job candidates.
  • Verbal and written communication skills as related to marketing insurance products and interacting with and training staff.
  • Coaching skills as related to conducting training for staff and handling disciplinary matters.
  • Time/project management and organizational skills as related to selling insurance products, conducting reporting and administrative duties and meeting with Sales Professionals.
  • Prior sales experience within the Insurance industry required.
  • Licensed as a Health and Life insurance agent to sell insurance in the state(s) within assigned territory.
  • Completion of all required ARS training as directed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, in Business, Sales, Marketing or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years experience leading other sales management and sales professionals is preferred.
  • Senior market product experience is required. Expertise preferred in all lines of Senior market products including, but not limited to: Medical Supplement, Med Advantage, Prescription Drug Program, Annuity, Final Expense and Long Term Care.
  • Experience building a “career” or “captive” type agency is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops sales agency to meet distribution growth objectives. Manages growth and profitability by managing the productivity, expenses and overall profitability of a single agency office.
  • Communicates Company Sales Plan to District Sales Managers. Provides coaching to ensure the sales strategy is understood and that individual expectations are clear.
  • Directs and manages sales efforts within sales agency to support distribution and regional goals and initiatives. Establishes priorities; provides mechanisms for frequent and effective communication within the sales team; assists Regional Sales Manager with forecasting production; enforces minimum performance standards; develops sales and marketing plans in conjunction with District Sales Managers and Sales Professionals; monitors production reports and agency budgets.
  • Recruits candidates for District Sales Manager and Sales Professional positions using approved resources and materials. Directs and monitors recruiting activities of District Sales Managers ensuring that ARS processes and selection guidelines are being followed.
  • Directs Sales Professionals selling activities through training and weekly activity reports. Ensures Sales Professionals are utilizing online prospecting systems and approved prospecting, presentation and closing techniques.
  • Trains District Sales Managers in the areas of administration, policies and procedures, compliance, product and sales processes. Directs training efforts of District Sales Managers related to the training of Sales Professionals.
  • Trains Sales Professionals with a direct reporting relationship. Trains those with an indirect reporting relationship to demonstrate training techniques to District Sales Managers.
  • Coaches and manages District Sales Managers utilizing approved management tools such as real-time feedback, peer-to-peer meetings and formal quarterly performance reviews. Serves as a role model by demonstrating professional and ethical conduct.
  • Administers processes to scrub and submit new business according to product manufacturer underwriting guidelines.
  • Oversees sales agency administrative staff performing reporting, supply ordering and other duties ensuring consistent administrative support of field sales efforts.
  • Attends required management training and meetings, completes industry related education courses as required and maintains necessary licenses.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
