About The Position

The Maryland Veterans Trust Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a core program of the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families. The Trust Fund provides one-time grant awards to help veterans, surviving spouses, and members of the Maryland National Guard overcome financial hardships. The fund is governed by a Board of Trustees and chaired by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families. The program is funded through donations from community partners, individuals, and other mandated state revenue partners.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in grant evaluation and monitoring or budget preparation, presentation and execution.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in grant evaluation and monitoring or budget preparation, presentation and execution.
  • Graduate education from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, political science or public administration at a rate of 30 credit hours for the required experience.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Budget Officer classifications or Financial Management specialty codes in the Budgeting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of demonstrated experience utilizing Salesforce or equivalent cloud-based grant management software to receive, track, review, and evaluate financial assistance or grant applications.
  • Two years of professional experience working directly with veterans, military service members, or their families, including a baseline understanding of the unique challenges and needs specific to the military community.
  • Two years of experience reviewing financial documentation for accuracy, verifying eligibility criteria, and making independent or formal recommendations regarding the approval or denial of microgrants or larger monetary awards.
  • Strong experience in constituent services or community outreach, with proven experience identifying applicant needs and successfully connecting individuals to federal, state, or community-based partner organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Answer and appropriately respond to (or redirect) inquiries to the MD Veterans Trust Fund or appropriate unit within the Department of Veteran and Military Families.
  • Manage correspondence and outreach from the VTF, for example: follow-up responses to submitted application status updates, letters, thank you notes, and other communications.
  • Assign, process, and review submitted applications to the VTF SalesForce platform. This includes reviewing applications for required documentation and information to proceed with forwarding and awarding individual one-time veteran grants.
  • Manage applicant inquiries and documentation submissions from the MD VTF email account and provide approved responses.
  • Maintain the VTF SalesForce platform to provide the vendor with development, maintenance and updates to eliminate application backlog and disseminate required information.
  • Coordinate event calendars and scheduling with staff, trainings, committee meetings and support the process of identifying suitable dates and times for events.
  • Interact with the offices and systems of the Department of Legislative Services to track pending legislation and annual report submission.
  • Coordinate and track activities of the VTF Board of Trustees and VTF committees staff.
  • Collect and remit attendance data required by the Appointments Office.
  • Serve as the point of contact for the Appointments Office.
  • Work directly with the VTF Director and staff to manage fund applications, grants and reports.
  • Work directly with the VTF Director on applying for and managing organizational grants for the VTF and DVMF agency.
