About The Position

The New York City Police Department's Office of the Deputy Commissioner Trials is seeking an attorney to join their specialized professional team. This role will focus on expediently and efficiently resolving disciplinary matters while safeguarding the due process rights of uniformed and civilian members. The selected candidate will be a collaborative colleague and an independent self-starter, responsible for assisting administrative law judges, synthesizing legal and factual issues, conducting legal research, supporting decision preparation, and managing case files and statistics.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar
  • Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment
  • Proof of graduation from an accredited law school must be shown prior to hire

Nice To Haves

  • Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086)
  • One year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment (for AL II)
  • Two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment (for AL III)

Responsibilities

  • Assist administrative law judges in all aspects of preparing disciplinary reports and recommendations
  • Efficiently synthesize complex legal and factual issues at a high level
  • Perform a wide range of legal research on a variety of issues related to law enforcement and administrative law
  • Provide support in preparing decisions and relevant data for public dissemination in order to foster increased transparency
  • Assistance with all aspects of case management and compilation of relevant case-related statistics and data patterns
