About The Position

D’Youville’s Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing is seeking an outstanding candidate to join our faculty in a part-time capacity. This role involves providing leadership in teaching, service, and scholarly activity. The faculty rank will be commensurate with education and qualifications. Faculty members are responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs within a shared governance setting. Teaching utilizes various active learning strategies to meet diverse student needs, including lecture, lab/clinical teaching, and online/hybrid instruction. D’Youville follows the Boyer model of scholarship, encompassing teaching, discovery, application, implementation, and engagement. Faculty also engage in service activities supporting the university, School of Nursing, profession, and community. Teaching responsibilities are limited to 15-18 credit hours per academic year, with up to 9 credits during the summer session. Regular activities include holding office hours, attending meetings, mentoring students, and engaging in university and community service.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Unencumbered RN license and APRN license with national certification in AGACNP to practice in New York, or licensure in another state in the US with eligibility for licensure in New York.
  • Demonstrate level of active and visible practice of scholarly and creative research commensurate with position.
  • Be focused on student success.
  • Possess academic and experiential expertise in an area of the discipline of Nursing with an emphasis on engaging and innovative pedagogy.
  • Be student-centric and service-minded.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams.
  • Provide effective classroom, instruction in courses required by a diverse student population and in multiple degree programs.
  • Have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods in the instructional setting and the dexterity to operate a computer and telephone.
  • Be capable of performing light to moderate lifting, pushing, or pulling of equipment.
  • Maintain professional competence and certification (if applicable) in specialty area.
  • Possess clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have the ability to interact and establish excellent interpersonal and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administrators, staff, the Dean, School of Nursing Leadership team, and the larger D’Youville community.

Nice To Haves

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or a closely related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
  • Three to five years of academic experience in nursing in the higher education setting, with a record of teaching, service, and research.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of School of Nursing academic programs.
  • Assisting with accreditation activities.
  • Serving as an active member and in leadership positions for School of Nursing and D’Youville Standing Committees.
  • Advising and mentoring nursing students.
  • Holding office hours as outlined by the School of Nursing.
  • Participating in strategic planning initiatives within the School of Nursing.
