About The Position

We are excited to invite a passionate part time Afterschool Youth Worker to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an Afterschool Youth Worker for our Families with Children facility located in the Soundview area of Bronx, NY. As the Youth Worker, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, assisting in our afterschool program which serves children from Kindergarten through High School. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families while fostering a welcoming environment where young people can learn, grow, and thrive. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS: Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred
  • Experience working with children, especially in a group context.
  • Openness to diverse backgrounds, especially among a high-risk population.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and cooperate effectively with your team.
  • Some schedule flexibility for coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of all children in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Engage children in art projects, games, performances, sports, and enrichment activities.
  • Assist students on homework assignments.
  • Serve as a positive role model.
  • Work in a team and Help the Group Leader develop lessons, events, holiday parties and performances.
  • Attend trainings and staff meetings.
  • Provide schedule flexibility, including the ability to provide coverage for occasional evening & weekend trips/events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
