About The Position

We’re growing our Afterschool team and hiring multiple staff members at locations throughout our community! Looking for a part-time job that’s active, meaningful, and works around your morning schedule? Join the YMCA and spend your afternoons helping school-aged children learn, play, build confidence, and feel like they belong. As an Afterschool Program Staff member, you’ll lead games and activities, encourage positive behavior, and help create a safe, welcoming environment where kids can have fun and thrive after the school day ends. No formal childcare experience? Don’t automatically count yourself out. If you’re dependable, energetic, enjoy working with kids, and are willing to learn, we want to hear from you. Experience in childcare, camps, recreation, education, coaching, youth programs, or similar settings is a plus. This is a great opportunity for college students, future teachers, psychology or social work students, coaches, paraprofessionals, retirees, and anyone looking for meaningful part-time afternoon work.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Ability to actively supervise children and maintain a safe program environment.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Applicants should have a desire to work in a role involving children and families.

Nice To Haves

  • one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting is preferred
  • Experience in childcare, camps, recreation, education, coaching, youth programs, or similar settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and supervise school-aged children in a safe, supportive environment.
  • Lead games, physical activities, enrichment activities, crafts, and other engaging experiences.
  • Implement the YMCA curriculum and daily lesson and activity plans within established guidelines.
  • Encourage positive behavior, teamwork, confidence, responsibility, and healthy choices.
  • Build positive, authentic relationships with children and families.
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers about program activities and their child’s experience as appropriate.
  • Make ongoing observations of children to support their development and program experience.
  • Maintain required program records, including attendance, incident, and behavior documentation.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, organized program site and equipment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and program activities.
  • Follow YMCA safety and child-protection procedures.
  • Implement YMCA Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
  • Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
  • Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
  • Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.
