About The Position

The Art Farm NYC is seeking a caring, organized, and enthusiastic After School Site Director to lead their afterschool program at a local K–5 school on the Upper East Side. The Site Director is responsible for the day-to-day implementation and operation of the Art Farm extended-day program. This position provides leadership to the site team, ensures students are safe and engaged, and serves as an important point of contact for families, school personnel, and Art Farm leadership. Educators bring their own creativity and energy to the classroom while working within the framework of the curriculum. Education is a team effort, and the Site Director will work closely with instructors, parents, school personnel, and Art Farm leadership to create a positive, welcoming, and high-quality experience for every student.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with school-age children, preferably in a school, afterschool, extended-day, camp, or similar youth program.
  • Strong classroom-management and group-management skills.
  • Ability to confidently lead and supervise a large group of students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with families, school personnel, instructors, and leadership.
  • Caring, patient, enthusiastic, and professional approach to working with children.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and responsive in a busy afterschool environment.
  • Successful completion of required reference checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in the PK–5 age range preferred.
  • Previous experience leading a classroom, youth program, or team of instructors is strongly preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation and implementation of the afterschool program at the school site.
  • Provide a safe, fun, welcoming, and engaging environment for students in K–5.
  • Ensure the safety, security, and appropriate supervision of all students at all times.
  • Direct and oversee site staff and daily program activities.
  • Coordinate and support a team of instructors based on program enrollment and staffing needs.
  • Work closely with Art Farm supervisors and colleagues to implement the daily program structure, including attendance, snack time, homework help, physical activities, enrichment activities, supervised free play, transition periods, and dismissal.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to instructors and help ensure staff are following program expectations and procedures.
  • Be prepared to manage and supervise the student group independently when the situation requires.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, school staff, and school administration.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians during pickup regarding student successes, challenges, and general program updates.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance, dismissal, and student records.
  • Assist with required documentation, including incident and accident reports, inventory records, and parent communications.
  • Monitor the overall quality and flow of the program and address issues as they arise.
  • Work with Art Farm senior leadership and support staff to ensure the program meets or exceeds school, parent, and student expectations.
  • Help foster a positive, collaborative, and professional team environment.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Art Farm leadership.
