SY27 Afterschool Program Art Instructor
About The Position
InnovateEDU seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Afterschool Arts & Crafts Instructor to join its middle school team at Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School in downtown Brooklyn. The instructor creates, implements, and manages daily activities that help students develop skills and qualities to become leaders in their school and community. Instructors draw on their subject-area expertise to facilitate workshops, with latitude to develop creative daily activities. This is a part-time, in-person position based at Brooklyn Lab campuses in Downtown Brooklyn. The schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m., and Wednesday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., with additional training hours and Saturdays as needed. The hourly rate is $25.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–2 years of experience working with adolescents in arts and crafts.
- Ability to manage 15 students in a classroom setting.
- Flexibility and creativity in developing engaging classroom activities.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Must successfully pass fingerprinting and SCR clearances; the $150 expense is reimbursable after hire.

Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate detailed lesson plans for middle school students focused on developing skills and techniques in a specified subject.
- Manage classrooms effectively and create a positive learning environment through effective classroom routines.
- Identify opportunities and outlets for students to engage with their Brooklyn community.
- Assist in organizing program-wide events, including activities with community partners.
- Communicate with other instructors and staff about student needs across programming.
- Train and support Group Leaders in conducting workshops.
- Attend staff meetings and professional training.
- Frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across campus for classroom and event needs.
- Arrive according to the expected work schedule; excessive lateness or absences may result in disciplinary action or termination.
- Accept the school's codes of behavior as the minimum standard of conduct required.
