About The Position

The YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester is a charitable, not-for-profit organization serving 66 zip codes throughout Putnam and Westchester counties. The YMCA is committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic UPK Aftercare Assistant to join our team of educators and support a high-quality, safe, and engaging preschool experience for children. This is a part-time, ten-month seasonal position that follows the local school district calendar. The UPK Aftercare Assistant will work alongside the UPK teaching team to provide a nurturing environment that supports children’s social, emotional, physical, and academic development.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, families, and YMCA staff

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with young children preferred
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree and/or Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential in Preschool preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist the UPK Teacher with daily preschool program activities, including academic enrichment, physical activities, arts and crafts, and other classroom experiences.
  • Provide a safe, healthy, and engaging environment while ensuring compliance with YMCA and licensing regulations.
  • Supervise children and support classroom routines and transitions.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating the YMCA character values of respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff members.
  • Follow all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical situations and emergency procedures.
  • Support classroom cleanliness, organization, and preparation of materials.
