About The Position

The After School Youth Program Food Service Assistant (006) will be responsible for preparing lunch and other food to club members in a courteous customer service oriented manner, organizing and setting up equipment and workstations, and performing duties while following health, food service, government, and other regulations. This is a part-time position working up to 25 hours a week Monday through Friday in the afternoon and evening. The role is located at our Navy Yard Site in Brooklyn, NY.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • General knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment.
  • Ability to promote healthy eating in a creative manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and club members.

Responsibilities

  • Practice personal hygiene and proper sanitation procedures.
  • Turn on, test and monitor equipment at the beginning of the day.
  • Food preparation according to written and oral instructions.
  • Serve lunch, dinner and a la carte items.
  • Monitor food and equipment temperatures at all times.
  • Exhibit courtesy and understanding to club members.
  • Demonstrate proper equipment operation skills.
  • Set up and break down of serving areas.
  • Receive, stock, and rotate incoming and outgoing inventory.
  • Participate in formal and informal training.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation practices.
  • Exhibit the professional behavior of a reliable employee.
  • Perform preparation duties for the next day.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and safe work environment.
  • Participate in special events for club members and community.
  • Oversee daily club member cafeteria sign-in and handwashing practices.
  • Perform dishwashing duties of cooking, serving and eating utensils tools.
