Boston After School STEM Program Leader
About The Position
Girlstart is seeking After School Program Leaders, called STEM CREW (Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Workforce), to lead hands-on STEM-focused after-school programs in Waltham, Woburn, and Somerville, Massachusetts. Programs meet once a week immediately after the school day and typically run from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. They provide 20–25 students with STEM enrichment designed to build confidence, collaboration, creative problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, while encouraging students to pursue higher education and explore career opportunities. A personal car is not required; Girlstart will cover transportation costs for leaders who do not have one. Leaders are preferably available at least one afternoon per week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, with the option to lead a second program depending on interest and availability. Leaders should be available around 2 p.m. on program days and until approximately 5 p.m. A one-program assignment takes about two hours each week, including lesson preparation, travel, leading activities, and cleanup. Leaders are encouraged to spend an additional one to two hours on office tasks such as practicing lessons, organizing materials, and asking questions. The overall commitment is 5–8 hours per week, and the number of clubs assigned depends on Girlstart’s needs each semester. Ongoing mandatory training is provided. Girlstart is an organization founded in 1997 that empowers girls through STEM in an inclusive environment. Its programs use hands-on activities, career exploration, and inspiration from women in STEM to encourage children to be brave, creative, and curious. The role offers experience in informal STEM education and the opportunity to develop leadership, communication, presentation, teamwork, and classroom-management skills. Requirements
- Desire to empower and educate girls in STEM.
- Reliable transportation, or a valid driver's license held for at least one year; travel to and from program locations is required.
- Comfort presenting to a group of girls.
- Proficient use of Google Drive apps.
- Strong time-management skills.

Responsibilities
- Lead hands-on, STEM-focused after-school programs for groups of approximately 20–25 students.
- Prepare for weekly lessons, travel to the program location, lead activities, and clean up.
- Practice lessons, organize materials, and use office hours to ask questions about activities and room management.
- Participate in mandatory ongoing training.
