About The Position

The After School Facilitator functions as a vital member of the service delivery team, responsible for maintaining high-quality programming by creating an educational, inclusive, and energetic environment. This individual will play an active role in implementing skill-building activities that challenge and inspire older children. Under the pedagogical oversight of the Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) After School Program Manager, the After School Educator provides direct support to the Site Coordinator in the daily operations of the program. The After School Facilitator is accountable to the After School Manager for the safe supervision of children in accordance with provincial Authorized Recreation policies and the YMCA philosophy. As a representative of the YMCA, this individual must be professional and courteous when engaging with parents, school stakeholders, and the public. The After School Educator serves as a consistent role model for children, exemplifying YMCA core values and maintaining a high standard of work ethic and reliability.

Requirements

• A diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child and Youth Care (CYC), or a related field (or recognized equivalency) is a significant asset.
• Fluent in English, oral and written
• Member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario, as required
• Minimum 2 year of experience working with children
• High level of interpersonal and written skills
• Sound knowledge of school-age child development (ages 3–12), with an emphasis on physical literacy, social-emotional regulation, and executive functioning
• Applicants must have a current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification.
• Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
• A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.
• Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.

• Implementing procedures for high-quality programming, providing consistent feedback on delivery and ensuring all individual and group needs are met through a child-centered lens
• Creating an educational, safe, clean and enjoyable environment for children.
• Fostering self-esteem, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills in children.
• Developing and maintaining constructive and open communication with staff.
• Understanding and following through on all YMCA policies, procedures and guidelines, as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual and Parent Handbook.
• Participating in a team-teaching approach in the supervision of the children and the development of the program.
