About The Position

This position is responsible for leading children's activities at an after-school program, including classroom training, tutoring, homework assistance, sports, bible study, computer programs, and specialized programs. The role involves preparing and serving snacks, assisting with field trips, and maintaining the cleanliness of the after-school area. A key responsibility is driving a Salvation Army vehicle to transport children from school to the facility for after-school care. The position requires providing constant care for children in a safe, healthy, and loving environment, developing and implementing age-appropriate lesson plans, and ensuring opportunities for physical and mental stimulation. The aide must exhibit control over children, use proper discipline techniques when needed, and maintain up-to-date records and reports. Ensuring the safety and security of children during activities and field trips, reporting accidents promptly, and assisting with transportation are also crucial. Work is performed in a camp environment with potential discomforts from weather, noise, dust, or dirt, involving frequent changes between sitting, standing, and walking.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Two years experience teaching child development programs in a church, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Valid state driver's license
  • C.P.R. and First Aid Certifications
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children
  • Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities
  • Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirements

Responsibilities

  • Leads children's activities at an after-school program including classroom training, tutoring, assists with homework, sports activities, bible study, computer programs and specialized programs
  • Prepares and serves children snacks
  • Assists in leading field trips
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the after-school area
  • Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers from school to the Salvation Army facility for after school care
  • Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner
  • Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities
  • Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques
  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.)
  • Ensures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in after school activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times
