About The Position

Under general direction of the Afterschool Coordinator (Site Coordinator) and with guidance by designated school site management/ and or certificated staff, the After School Lead will assist with the development and implementation of after school and other student learning activities and experiences, including organizing, and conducting classes, tutoring, program activities and events. Lead Program Assistants will monitor daily operations for all after school instructional programs and activities.

Requirements

  • An earned high school diploma.
  • At least three to six months of experience working with children of varying ages, needs, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • School’s safety and security procedures including emergency evacuations.
  • Age-appropriate enrichment activities such as academic achievement; educational enrichment; visual/performing arts/ health/nutrition/technology; sports/recreation; and cultural groups and events.
  • Techniques and methods of student supervision and behavior management.
  • Cultural and physical differences and needs of children in assigned activities.
  • Basic computer and technology applications.
  • Leadership and Supervision: ability to lead and supervise a team of afterschool staff effectively. Skills in delegating tasks and providing constructive feedback.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and school administration.
  • Problem-solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address and resolve issues that arise during the program. Ability to think critically and make quick, effective decisions in emergencies.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to plan and organize activities and schedule efficiently. Possess multitasking skills to manage various aspects of the program simultaneously.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and needs within the program. Ability to modify activities and approaches based on the needs and interests of students.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with planning and supervises all instructional programs and activities.
  • Ensures the safety standards are followed for a safe and secure environment at all times.
  • Communicates with Afterschool Coordinator, staff members, and families regarding all program activities, student needs, and program events.
  • Reviews daily operations for the After School Program and activities with the After School Coordinator.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
  • Attends scheduled shifts during regular operating hours as mandated.
  • Assists in providing leadership and support in academic, cultural and recreational enrichment.
  • Under the direct supervision of the After School Coordinator, the Program Leader will provide a safe environment that educates, enlightens and inspires youth in a school setting.
  • Lead and assist in planning (prep time) & implementation of the daily After School Program under the direction of the After School Coordinator.
  • Uses age-appropriate methods that include youth development principles.
  • Supervises students in the designated activity areas.
  • Maintains professional attitude, rapport and appearance with all program stakeholders.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and training.
  • Responsible for the distribution of supper/snack and daily attendance tracking.
  • Implements strategies (sensory, positioning, behavior, language, etc.) in accordance with school policies and procedures, and IEP goals.
  • Mediates interpersonal conflicts between students effectively in accordance with school policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a mandated reporter and follows school policies and procedures for reporting student injuries and incidents (ie. child abuse, substance abuse, sexual harassment, violence, etc.).
  • Carries out programs designed to meet the individual identified needs of eligible students as prescribed and implemented by teachers and DIS Providers, also known as case managers.
  • Supports students who may demonstrate challenging behaviors by proactively working with case managers and team members to implement the behavior support plan and/or crisis plan.
  • Assists students with all aspects of toileting; changing, lifting on/off the toilet, changing tables or mats.
  • Administers first aid and provides basic nursing care to students, including but not limited to the use of airway suctioning equipment.
  • Performs Paraprofessional duties as needed to cover absences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
