About The Position

Kids in the Game is seeking part-time dance and creative movement specialists to teach classes in their after-school enrichment programs. As a coach, you will help change the way kids play by providing sports and skill development, making a positive impact on their lives. Kids in the Game operates sports and enrichment-based programs in schools and communities across New York City, aiming to provide positive experiences through sports and creative play. Their goal is to inspire kids to embrace new experiences, adopt a healthy lifestyle, and build integrity. The organization focuses on enhancing emotional intelligence, creating a positive sense of self, developing NYC into a top talent hub, integrating communities, and narrowing income inequality gaps. Requirements

  • Experience teaching creative movement to groups of elementary and/or middle school children.
  • At least two years of prior teaching experience in different creative movement and dance genres.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to relate to younger children, work with different age groups, and partner with school staff to support children’s physical and emotional needs.
  • Available to work Monday - Friday during after school hours (2-6pm).
  • Ability to reliably commute to multiple locations throughout the week to teach classes throughout NYC.
  • Up-to-date physical and tuberculosis test documentation will be required before starting.
  • Must pass Federal and NY State background checks and be willing to complete Department of Education fingerprinting before starting.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, including during outdoor activities, playground supervision, gym classes, or park-based programming.
  • Ability to walk to and from nearby program locations or parks, sometimes several blocks, while supervising children.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to engage with children at their level, assist with activities, or provide support as needed.
  • Ability to climb stairs in school buildings or community facilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–40 pounds, including sports equipment, activity supplies, or personal belongings (weight may vary by role).
  • Ability to participate in active games and movement-based activities, including running, jumping, throwing, and demonstrating basic sports skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, or light rain, depending on program needs.
  • Ability to maintain visual and auditory awareness to supervise children effectively and ensure safety in active environments.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement structured dance lessons across multiple dance styles.
  • Create progressive lesson plans that build skills, creativity, and confidence over time.
  • Adapt programming to meet varying age groups, ability levels, and student needs.
  • Organize informal performances or showcases when applicable.
  • Commit to partaking in all enrichment coach trainings throughout the school year.
  • Foster a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Build positive relationships with students while encouraging teamwork, self-expression, and respect.
  • Model and promote positive character development and healthy peer interactions.
  • Use positive reinforcement and positive language at all times when engaging with the students.
  • Actively supervise all students to ensure a safe and structured environment.
  • Incorporate appropriate warm-ups, cool-downs, and injury-prevention techniques.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral challenges, or conflicts, following organizational policies.
  • Work closely with site leadership and other program staff to align programming with overall site goals.
  • Communicate effectively with coaches and leaders regarding student participation and progress.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
  • Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to actively engage with youth.
  • Be prepared in proper uniform for every day of program.
  • Uphold the organization’s mission and values both in and out of the program.
  • Demonstrate integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
