About The Position

Breakthrough Summerbridge (BTSB) is seeking dedicated, dynamic educators to serve as After-School Enrichment (ASE) Instructors for their 7th and 8th-grade students. This is a part-time, seasonal role where instructors will design and deliver an engaging, interactive 3-lesson mini-unit. Students will work toward a final deliverable by the end of the unit. The program aims to prepare ambitious students from under-resourced circumstances to enter and thrive in well-matched high schools, with the ultimate goal of college admission, success, and graduation. BTSB also offers a College Access Program (CAP) for high school students to support college preparedness and admissions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• At least 3 years of successful professional teaching experience in middle or high school.
• Demonstrated track record in curriculum development, standard alignment, and implementation.
• Deep knowledge of subject matter and familiarity with relevant instructional resources.
• Strong presentation, writing, classroom management, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to submit a resume and a brief cover letter explaining interest and idea for a proposed mini-unit.

Nice To Haves

• Science Instructor: 7th Grade: Mini-unit on Ecosystems or Earth’s Natural Resources with emphasis on developing and testing designs or models.
• Science Instructor: 8th Grade: Topic related to 9th-grade Biology curriculum anchored in Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS Biology).
• Humanities Instructor: 7th Grade: Unit centered around a short story or collection of short stories with emphasis on literacy skills (could be fiction or non-fiction, historical or current event). Reading level should be 7th grade or higher.
• Humanities Instructor: 8th Grade: Development of foundational skills used in 9th grade college prep Humanities course (English/Social Studies).

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver an engaging, interactive 3-lesson mini-unit.
• Teach lessons that are interactive, hands-on learning experiences designed to keep middle schoolers motivated and engaged.
• Attend a virtual orientation session with the BTSB Director of Programming and Instruction (DPI) in October (for Fall) or February (for Spring).
• Submit unit overview and set of lesson plans two weeks prior to the first ASE session.
• Participate in a debrief meeting with the DPI after the final lesson each semester.
