After School / Day Camp Counselor
About The Position
St. Andrew's Parish Parks & Playground Commission is hiring energetic, dependable counselors to create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for children ages 5 to 12. The role is suitable for high school and college students, aspiring teachers, recreation professionals, and others who enjoy working with children. Applicants must be at least 15 years old. The after-school program runs Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Day camp operates from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during school breaks, including teacher workdays and Fall, Winter, and Spring Breaks. Hours vary according to program needs, with a maximum of 29 hours per week. Starting pay is $17.00–$18.50 per hour, depending on experience and ability to drive agency vehicles. Employment is described as part-time and seasonal. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required pre-employment screenings, which may include background checks, employment eligibility verification, and post-offer drug screening, in accordance with Commission policy and applicable law. The Commission is an at-will and equal opportunity employer.
Requirements
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification is required, or the ability to obtain it.
- Darkness2Light – Stewards of Children certification is required; it can be provided in-house.
- Must be dependable and enthusiastic, and able to work well as part of a team.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with children is preferred.
- Applicants who meet age and licensing requirements may have opportunities to drive agency vehicles.
