About The Position

This position is responsible for planning and directing the preparation and serving of food programs in the assigned cafeteria/kitchen. The cook will promote the school food program by preparing nutritious, appetizing meals tailored to the tastes of the students. This role involves supervising and participating in food preparation and serving, as well as cleaning the kitchen and related areas. The cook will direct sanitation procedures, maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, and ensure all equipment is in safe working condition. Record-keeping for food and supplies, adherence to district, state, and federal guidelines, and supervision/training of food service workers are also key responsibilities. The position requires following safety rules and regulations and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three years experience in commercial/institutional/large scale food preparation required.
  • Valid Washington State Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and percentages.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively supervise kitchen in a positive and productive manner.
  • Good organizational, management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform job and communicate in a noise environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Knowledge and experience in using standard recipes and ability to adjust recipes to different quantities.
  • Knowledge and experience in sanitary guidelines and practices.

  • Follow safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform other activities and duties as assigned.
