About The Position

The Site Director is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, effective communication and maintaining the overall well-being and safety of Y After School participants and support staff. They should possess high energy, enthusiasm, genuinely enjoy working with children, and be team oriented. The Site Director is responsible for the planning, implementation, and facilitation of a structured daily schedule. The Site Director must be positive, with a patient and respectful demeanor towards children, parents, coworkers, and administration. All staff are expected to be interactive and engaging with the children throughout the day. This includes standing for long periods and participating in physical activities both indoors and outdoors. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the After School program. Ensures the safety of all children. Work as a team with Support Staff. Provide direct supervision of Support Staff. Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff. Ensures compliance and licensing regulations. Maintain facility and equipment. Keeps accurate records, records daily attendance, records snack attendance, assists in the collection of weekly payments by communication to parents, and completes necessary paperwork. Attend job related training and staff development meetings. Responsible for maintaining and growing enrollment alongside the Childcare Director. Follow the weekly activity schedule and lead a variety of activities such as games, arts/crafts projects, tutorial time. Set up for nutritional snacks. Clean up areas after snacks. Acts as a liaison between the Y, the school and the community.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 year of program experience with children, preferably in an after school setting.
  • Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in creating, planning, and facilitating interactive and educational/artistic activities relating to youth development, physical fitness, and academic enrichment.
  • Must possess speaking, listening and writing skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
  • Must be capable of implementing directives related to the daily program.
  • Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies and YMCA standards; ensures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise as well as participate in program activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred CPR/First Aid. If not certified, will receive training through the YMCA.

  • Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk management.
  • Ensure there is a positive culture for responding and reporting for employees and volunteers.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk and prevention.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the YMCA’s progressive discipline policy.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the YMCA’s commitment to zero tolerance of abuse to youth.
  • Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.
  • Adhere to screening requirements for Minor Employees and use screening instruments designed to assess for abuse risk.
  • Communicate to all Minor Employees the YMCA’s commitment to protect their youth from abuse.
  • Provide Minor Employees with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide Minor Employees with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
  • Require Minor Employees to adhere to policies/procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the YMCA’s progressive discipline policy.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
