About The Position

This job description covers duties for both the school year and summer camp programs. Program Assistants working with Kindergarten through 8th grade will be responsible for providing a safe, caring, and enriching environment for children in the St. Benedict’s Stingers Squad Aftercare and Summer Camp programs. During the school year, this role takes place after regular school hours and should align with the day program's care, policies, and communication. The same level of care and standards should be maintained during the summer camp program.

Requirements

  • High School degree or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Prior childcare experience preferred but not required.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Training will be provided by St. Benedict’s if not certified.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with children.
  • Excellent listening, strong problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to implement age-appropriate, enriching activities.
  • Ability to work with school technology and apps such as Google Suites, PikMyKid, and email.
  • Ability to help create a harmonious environment by working well on a small team and with other staff.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully both orally and in writing.
  • Reliable and dependable.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing and planning needs.
  • Exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making and practice extreme professionalism.
  • Learn, follow, and enforce St. Benedict’s guidelines related to internal policies.
  • Adhere to legal requirements and regulations maintaining confidentiality and utilizing discretion.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time while instructing.
  • Excellent hearing abilities.
  • Physical ability to transport students from one area of a building/campus to another.
  • Physical ability to move into different learning spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive and enriching after-school experience.
  • Work with the Program Lead to maintain consistent headcounts and awareness of each child’s location.
  • Monitor and supervise children under the care of Stingers Squad Program, maintaining constant "line of sight" both inside and outside designated areas.
  • Assist the Program Lead in ensuring the class is within the required student-to-staff ratio.
  • Assist Program Leads in conducting all student activities, including arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor games, and teacher-directed games.
  • Assist the Program Lead with daily sign-in/out processes using PikMyKid.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Stingers Squad and summer camp classroom and storage areas.
  • Monitor individual and/or groups of students in various settings to enforce school rules, manage behavior, and ensure a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment.
  • Adhere to policies outlined in the St. Benedict’s Employee Handbook, Auxiliary Programs policies and procedures, and subsequent training.
  • In the absence of the Stingers Squad Program Lead, assume responsibility for all classroom duties.
  • Attend staff meetings and assigned online training.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and school matters.
  • Model appropriate behavior in speech and actions.
  • Model professional and ethical standards and practices consistent with school policies when interacting with students, parents, and peers.
  • Be evaluated through informal and formal observations.
  • Participate in training and professional development, and goal setting with a supervisor.
  • Show support and high esteem for the School at all times.
  • Comply with conditions stated in the employee agreement and handbook.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Auxiliary Programs.
